KCPW Minority Group Campaigns for Vouchers in Weber County http://kcpw.org/article/4490 September 27, 2007 by Julie Rose
"Sometimes you need more individual attention drawn to the minority students," says Porter. "A lot of minorities feel like they're left behind - not only here, but across the country. And more individual attention can be given in a smaller classroom." The new campaign group calls itself "Minorities for Vouchers." Porter says the group doesn't plan to raise money for advertising. Instead, he says they'll canvass neighborhoods and focus on reaching out to other minority voters: "We'll make presentations in churchs, knock on doors and talk to anyone who will listen," says Porter. The group's stance is in direct opposition to the NAACP, which is actively supporting the campaign to defeat vouchers in Utah. |
